Are you planning a visit to Louisville, Kentucky? Kentucky’s largest city offers a whole host of exciting activities and is the state’s cultural hub for music, food and much more! In this article, we will list our favorite things to do in Louisville, KY.

Bet The Ponies at Churchill Downs

If you find yourself in Louisville on the first weekend in May, you’ll quickly find out that it is THE place to be. Home of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the triple crown, is the historic Churchill Downs. While the Kentucky Derby is certainly the most significant horse race in town, the track plays host to races in both the Spring and Fall Meets. You can check their website for the current race calendar. Churchill Downs also offers tours of the historic facilities as well as a Kentucky Derby Museum that is worth checking out.

Swing By The Louisville Slugger Factory & Museum

Whether or not you are an avid baseball fan, you can surely appreciate the history behind the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Louisville Slugger has been making bats since 1884 and is located right here in Louisville, Kentucky. There you can see the bat making process upfront at the factory tour. There is also a very cool museum which includes a bat vault of every bat the company has made. Looking for a souvenir on your trip? You can personalize your own baseball bat at the factory! Don’t have time for a tour? You still should stop by the museum and take a picture in front of the world’s largest bat!

Taste and Tour the Bourbon Trail

While many of the major bourbon brands are located outside of the city, Louisville is home to a rich history of Kentucky’s favorite beverage. Many brands like Old Forester, Jim Beam, and Evan Williams have tasting rooms conveniently located downtown. If you are looking for a full distillery tour, making a trip to Angel’s Envy, Michter’s or Copper & Kings would make for a fun afternoon. Kentucky is best known for its bourbon and there are plenty of good bourbons to try in Louisville!

Watch A Concert or Game at KFC Yum Center

The KFC Yum Center is home to the Louisville Cardinals basketball team but also hosts many of the area’s best concerts. The state of the art facility is located in the heart of downtown with plenty of nearby restaurants and bars to enjoy before or after your event. The Louisville Cardinals host games all winter long and you can find a full list of upcoming concerts at the venue’s website.

Walk The Big 4 Bridge

A wonderful free activity for many in Louisville is to walk the Big 4 Bridge which connects Louisville to Jeffersonville, Indiana. The bridge is located adjacent to the Louisville Waterfront Park. At night, the bridge is illuminated with colorful lights and has become an iconic piece of the Louisville skyline. The bridge was originally built for rail traffic in 1895, but has been converted to pedestrian and bicycle traffic as part of a major renovation in 2014. The bridge spans 2,525 feet across the Ohio River and makes for an enjoyable stroll.
