2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overview

All New 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When you think of a jeep you probably think of an ultimate allrounder, not only a great 4×4 but also a stylish and practical everyday vehicle. The Jeep Grand Cherokee was first introduced in the early 70’s and it is fair to say it has come a long way since it first hit showrooms. Consumers were given an idea of how a new Grand Cherokee may look from the three-row Grand Cherokee L debuted in 2021 however, the two-row fourth-generation variant has waited a long 11 years for an update. Wait no more, the 2022 model has had quite a face lift from its predecessors as well as a whole host of safety features and interior luxuries and Jeep is boasting that the new Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV ever.

So, let’s have a look at what makes the 2022 Grand Cherokee, Jeep’s best model yet.

Performance and Capability

As standard the Grand Cherokee comes with a 293hp 3.6 litre V6 engine, with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. If you like a little more power, then there is also a 357hp 5.7 litre V8 option, nothing surprising here compared to previous years. However, the V8 will provide a higher towing capacity of 7200 pounds compared to that of the V6 which can tow 6200 pounds, quite a jump from the current 2021 models that only offer 3500 pounds of towing capacity from the V6.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee also has improved off-road capabilities compared to that of previous models with Jeep’s new Sway Bar Disconnect. Designed to handle extreme off-road conditions by providing improved agility and articulation, combined with the Quadra-Lift suspension providing ride height adjustability, and the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System Jeep really have thought about how to make the 2022 Grand Cherokee stand out on and off-road.

Now, for the more eco conscious out there, the  new 2022 Grand Cherokee will also now be available as a plug-in hybrid, known as the 4xe. The 4xe model will have a reported 375hp created by Jeep’s ‘class-exclusive PHEV powertrain’, a 2-litre turbocharged engine and electric motor. Providing a reported range of 24 miles full electric and 440 miles combined. A clear show of the overall market shift towards a more electric and hybrid line up. The 4xe will have a towing capacity of 6000 pounds, a reported average consumption of 57mpg, and 3 new driving modes to give the driver more control of efficiency depending on their driving stye or need.

Styling and Comfort

Jeep have given customers 7 trim levels to choose from on the standard 2022 Grand Cherokee and 5 options for the new 4xe model. Starting from $39,285 the Laredo is the entry level trim for the Grand Cherokee with both 4×2 and 4×4, and 2 or 3 row seating options. This trim is by no means lacking, offering drivers adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, LED exterior lighting and a new 10.25-inch fully digital cluster display. At the top end of the scale is the Summit Reserve starting at $65,260 and comes with all your expected features from the other trim levels plus Palermo leather seats, 19-speaker premium McIntosh Audio, 21-inch polished aluminium wheels and a front passenger screen.

Jeep seems to have a real focus on improving the interior look and feel. A new passenger screen is set to provide entertainment and co-pilot controls, allowing the passenger to search and send destinations to the driver, watch tv, and control the rear seat entertainment screens. A real-life saver for parents wanting to keep their children entertained on those long journeys! One particularly impressive feature of this new entertainment option is the built-in Amazon Fire TV allowing all users to watch their favourite Amazon TV shows, movies, and play video games together or individually. There is even a voice control remote allowing users to ask Alexa to find their favourite shows.

As mentioned, the Summit Reserve comes with the new Premium McIntosh sound system with 19 speakers, a first for a full-sized SUZ. Stated to have a 17-channel amplifier delivering up to 950 watts of power and a 10-inch subwoofer. Premium speakers that not only produce a crisp sound but, also add to the overall luxury feel of the car.

Safety and Security

Jeep have not held back when it comes to safety, there are 110 standard and available safety and security features on the 2022 Grand Cherokee. There is a new Active Driving Assist which is designed through a range of sensors and radars to make subtle adjustments that keep the vehicle in a safe position on the road. This feature designed to keep you from getting too close to other vehicles in front, behind and to the side of you. This feature also enables another new option, full Hands-Free Active Driving which Jeep states will have later availability but when is released, will encourage you with alerts to stay attentive and ready to take back control when needed.

Amongst the 110 safety features are intersection collision assist, night vision cameras, surround view cameras, drowsy driver detection, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and ParkSense. All designed to give the driver and passengers peace of mind and provide a more enjoyable driving experience, something that is seen constantly improved and added to with each new model released.
