Best Winter Activities in Louisville KY

Are you looking for a fun winter activity in Louisville, Kentucky? You’re in luck! Louisville offers plenty of family-friendly activities during the cold winter months. So whether you are looking for something to do indoors or outdoors, there’s no shortage of free or low-cost activities. In this article, we will rank our favorite winter activities in Louisville.
Explore the Louisville Mega Cavern
The Louisville Mega Cavern offers a wide range of activities in the winter months. Most notably, the Mega Cavern features an incredible underground Christmas light display that you can enjoy from the warmth and comfort of your own vehicle. You’ll also find a large selection of winter activities in the Mega Cavern’s Ice Park. Some of these include ice skating, ice tubing, and various other outdoor winter activities.
Another popular activity to do at the Louisville Mega Cavern is zip-lining! In fact, you can enjoy two separate ziplines – one that goes up to 60 mph, and the other that goes up to 70 mph.
Explore the Louisville Water Tower
Located downtown, the Louisville Water Tower features an observation deck that has spectacular views of the city all year round. However, in winter months it becomes even more stunning with picturesque sights of snow-covered buildings and tall pine trees. The height of the water tower is a whopping 567 feet, so you can imagine the amazing views you will have.
The observation deck is free to access and open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays during winter months.
Take the Family Ice Skating
Louisville has several ice rinks available in its vicinity but our favorite is the Louisville Ice Center. This ice rink offers open skating, hockey lessons for kids and adults, and even ice dancing classes!
One of our favorite things to do at the Louisville Ice Center is speed skating. The speed skating track is over 650 feet long, so it’s a great way to get some exercise and have fun at the same time. The Louisville Ice Center is a family-friendly, affordable winter activity for people of all ages.
Go To The Louisville Zoo
The Louisville Zoo is open all year round, but one of our favorite times to visit is in the winter. The park is decked out with festive decorations and holiday lights, so it’s like walking through a winter wonderland!
My favorite time to go to the zoo is around Christmastime when the animals are given special treats like sugar plums and gingerbread. It’s so much fun to see the animals get excited over their holiday-themed treats!
Take in A Museum
Louisville is home to several museums including the Louisville Science Center (an interactive children’s museum), the Frazier History Museum (with over 1 million artifacts), and 21C Museum Hotel (a contemporary art museum).
There are so many great reasons to visit a museum during the winter months. You can enjoy some quality time with your family, do some culture exploring, and even learn something new!
