2021 Ram 1500 TRX is the Motortrend Truck of the Year

The Ram 1500 TRX caught headlines when FCA announced they were putting the supercharged V-8 into a pickup truck. We’ve seen this engine before – the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Jeep Grand Cherokee have taken on this powerful engine. Now, for the first time, we’ll get to experience it in the most popular FCA vehicle – the Ram 1500. Perhaps, more important than the horsepower, the Ram TRX is rated to tow up to 8,100 pounds. This takes a slight edge over its primary competitor – the Ford Raptor.

“The least interesting thing about the Ram 1500 TRX is that it’s powered by a 702 horsepower supercharged V-8.” That’s right, the Ram 1500 TRX is the first time FCA has put its Supercharged HEMI Hellcat engine into a pickup and it’s not even the best thing about the vehicle. FCA pulled its off-road expertise from the Wrangler and put it into a pickup. The TRX features a full-time four-wheel drive, high-torque-capacity 8-speed transmission and electronic locking rear differential. All said, the TRX is capable of handling the trickiest off-road situations.
